Alonissos, an island of many surprises
With a uniquely beautiful nature
Marpounta
This is a quiet area full of trees, from which one can see the island of Evia when the sky is clear.
Nearby beaches are the beaches of Vythisma and of Megalos Mourtias. Marpounta is an ideal spot for quiet holidays. Walkers will appreciate it. Tourists may easily visit Megalos Mourtias and have a nice meal there.
There are quite a few places where you can fish from the seashore.
Alonissos
Alonissos is one of the four islands that form the cluster of the Sporades islands and is the last island the ferry approaches at the end of the itinerary.
The island’s length is 13 miles and the width is 3 miles. Alonissos has many pine trees and olive trees as well as crystal clear blue waters, just like Skopelos and Skiathos. Most of its beaches have small pebbles while 1-2 beaches are sandy beaches. Most traditional houses were ruined because of the earthquake that occurred in 1965.
Alonissos is renowned for the National Marine Park where the Mediterranean Monk Seal lives; this is why the island definitely has the cleanest waters in the Mediterranean Sea.
A few words about Sporades
The green islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros form the cluster of the Sporades. Skiathos, Alonissos and Skopelos are connected to each other by ferry, while Skyros can be accessed by ferry via the island of Evia.
Skiathos has also an airport. Most of them attract many tourists who seek quiet holidays in a green natural environment with crystal clear sea. Skiathos is probably the noisiest of the four islands.
Sporades are renowned for their natural environment.
